How much to repair a push lawn mower? I've got one with probably a clogged carb and another with leaking oil.

The leaking oil is coming from a gasket area. They are just push mowers and I wonder if it'll be about the same price just to buy a new one. Or get one of these fixed. How much to repair a push lawn mower? I've got one with probably a clogged carb and another with leaking oil.
first I would say, that you can clean the carb. get a kit and replace what you need..remember simple things first!...get your phone book out..look under gasoline engines..you will find a sales and service dealer close to you..then call them with the model, type and code if it is a briggs...the others, such as tecumseh have different numbers..as does honda, but, you say you have oil leaking from gasket?..could it be the bolts aren't tightened?...I have run into this problem with backyard mechanics..sorry guys is the truth...but, a gasket can be replaced...again..need your numbers off the engine!...but, unless you are mechanically inclined and it's smaller than a 5.5?..chances are...will be cheaper to buy another one...but, check what I told you first...you can clean that carb. with Chemtool b-12..found at most napa stores and other's....How much to repair a push lawn mower? Unless you have the skills and tools, gasket replacement is not cost effective, a shop would charge enough that a new mower is very attractable. It could also be an oil bearing, probably the one in the oil pan around the crankshaft, if not an oil pan gasket.

As far as your carb, take it off and remember how to put it back on. Then toss it in a small can from beans, corn or whatever canned vegetables you like and bathe it in carb cleaner or denatured alcohol. let sit for 24 hours take it out, let it dry and reassemble.
The one with the leaking oil is probably not worth repairing. I have personally replaced several lawn mower carbs myself, so it isn't very difficult. You can buy a new carb for under $30.00 at a small engine repair shop if you know the brand and model of your mower.

Once you have cleaned or replaced the carb, ask your small engine repair shop what type and which grade of gasoline to use. Additives from gas can clog lawn mower carbs really fast. Also ask whether in your part of the country, gasoline needs a stabilizer when stored for long periods of time.
