Oil light flickers on after a blown head gasket was repaired 92 celica?

I blew a head gasket on my 92 Celica. This was repaired and then the oil light would flicker on and off for the week after. This stopped and after 2 months of it driving it has been fine, until my bf had to repair a coil in my distributor and some other oil leak and now the oil light flashes on again!! I have noticed this flashes on when i am idle and the fan on the radioator (?) kicks in... anyone know why?? After the gasket was repaired everything to do with the oil was changed and it has only started once the coil was fiddled with...??Oil light flickers on after a blown head gasket was repaired 92 celica?
sometimes when you work on a motor things get dropped into the oil pan like little pieces of gasket material, and these little pieces collect on the screen of the oil pump and slow up the pumping action of the oil pump, and the oil pressure drops and the oil light will flicker when the oil changes pressure do to the clog. also when the radiator fan kicks in ,there is a electoral draw on the alternator and that pulls the motor down a little and the oil pressure drops a little and the light flickers again. Good Luck.Oil light flickers on after a blown head gasket was repaired 92 celica?
a flicker generally is not a falsle reading...

especially if this happens at stops or at idle in gear.

probally some debri dropped into the pan when the headgasket job was done...

if you dont take off the oil pan and clean the screen..

your engine wont last much longer...

Paul
maybe he bumpd a censor or maybe you nee oil
First ck your oil level it might be low then have oil pressure checked Hey it might be a loose wire or a bad pressure sender switch.
THE OIL LIGHT IS PROBABLY FLICKERING BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS TIRED AT IDLE WHEN THE FAN TURNS ON THE MOTOR IS HOT AND RUNNING SLOWLY THE LOAD CREATED BY THE FAN ACTUALLY SLOWS THE MOTOR EVEN MORE THE SLOWER THE MOTOR TURNS THE LOWER THE OIL PRESSURE WILL BE TRY RAISING THE IDLE SPEED A LITTLE
1 - idle too low

2- using light that dang light weight engine oil.

0w , 5w syn,

its summer , put in 10w-40 chevron, and see what it does.

3- the dude mech blocked an oil gallery in the head buy putting gasket backwards or put seal goop on gallery hole.

4- idiot guage sender is toast.

Id recommend taking real readings with a real gauge after getting thicker oil in it.
ok.....let's begin. This is the order of events I believe took place.

1) cylinder head blew, mixing coolant with oil. coolant is a poor lubricant, and allowed the crankshaft to bite into the bearings, increasing the clearance.

2) cyinder head replaced, possible gasket debris got into the motor, but unlikely. (can plug up oil pickup screen)

3) new oil put in......possibly thinner, but I will give credit to the mechanic for putting in regular 10w-30 oil.

4) the ';new'; bearing clearances between the crankshaft and the bearings are wider now, and allow oil pressure to bleed off at a faster rate, lowering overall oil pressure the most when oil is at its thinnest(hottest).

I recommend a thicker oil to take up the slack in the system, and the oil pressure checked with a guage.

As for the coil problem.....make sure he replaced the distributor cap, too. Ignition coils are MURDERED.....so something had to kill it, right? Bad plug wires/bad cap and rotor can cause this. Replacing only the coil alone won't work for long.....something else in the ignition system is wrong.

Don't forget to clean the throttle body to aid in fast starts and smooth idling.
