I have a 1998 gmc jimmy. There is a minor oil leak any advice on what i should repair or check first? thanks ?

It depends on where the leak comes from. You can do all sorts of repairs, but if you don't fix the problem, you're throwing money away.

If the engine is dirty, the first step is to clean it. I have heard of people using a carwash to do this. That seems tacky to me - leaving greasy dirt and oil all over the place. You sure don't want to wash all that oil down the drain, either! I'd ask a mechanic or a detailing shop what they do, and go from there.

Next, figure out where the leak is located. Put newspaper or big pieces of cardboard on the floor of the garage, and park the truck over that. In the morning, look where the fresh drops are located, and work your way up from there. Keep in mind that if the oil flows or drips onto something, it can move sideways quite a ways before it falls to the ground.

Now you'll have some idea of what needs to be repaired.
