How do you know if valve guides will repair oil use?

1990 Dodge van with a 360 that uses about a quart of oil per tank of gas. If I check the compression and it's ok then replacing the valve quides should fix it right? I've replaced the PCV valve already. How do you know if valve guides will repair oil use?
You can have good compression and still burn oil from the rings. For valve guides, you have to remove the heads to replace them and when it's that far apart, guides can be checked to see if they need replacing or just the seals. How do you know if valve guides will repair oil use?
Worn valve guides will make your engine run rough. But since you have good compression it may just be valve guide seals, this Will make your engine smoke when you first start it in the morning(or after a while of sitting) and then stop smoking after running a bit. If it smokes all the time then you should look at the piston rings. You can replace valve guide seals without removing the heads. Good Luck!
