I haved drained the coolant but it turned brown and frothy after driving a few miles, at this point it does not overheat. What repair should I consider if I find oil in the coolant of my 1994 Mazda Protege?
Cracked cylinder head. Is there water in the oil? Capillary action is drawing oil through cracks in the head into the cooling system, so it's not just a simple head gasket. The cylinder head will have to be removed, tested and repaired and the radiator disassembled and cleaned out. The only other areas where oil and water can mix is the water heated intake manifold and the timing case. Both of these faults would be as a result of using plain water instead of inhibitor, mixing coolants or not replacing coolants at the prescribed interval. Jules. Mechanic. Head gasket has developed a leak and needs to be replaced. The leak has developed between the coolant and oil holes is the most likely cause of the oil and coolant mixing.
When you have the head off when replacing the gasket, have the head inspected for cracks because a cracked head can cause similar problems.
It's probably a small leak and if you get it fixed soon you won't have other engine problems. Otherwise you might overheat and warp the head.
you probably have a head gasket leak or a cracked head.
most likely head gasket
a new car! If it is a head gasket those cost an arm and a leg to fix.
