My 99Saturn SW2 burns about a qt/oil every 300 mi. What are my repair options?

I also have to add a bit, not much, of coolant every 500 miles or so. I'm still getting about 28 mi/gal.My 99Saturn SW2 burns about a qt/oil every 300 mi. What are my repair options?
If it's not leaking... you may have bad piston rings... burning it off inside the combustion chamber... in this case... you need a good old fashioned rebuild.

Coolant could be a leak... if not... most likely a head gasket... again burning if off in the combustion chamber

Thank's for your help. It died. I brought it in, it was flooded, needed new plugs, transmission filter, water pump and belt. It runs like a charm now. Thanks again. Report Abuse

How many miles are on it will determine the value of a rebuild. Sounds as if the engine is really really tired.
could be piston rings or valve stem/seals. does it emmit smoke, all the time or just at start-up.

if the body is good, it may well warrent an engine rebuild. you may be able to find a rebuilt engine that you can simply drop in and return for exchange.
Rebuild the engine. Some Saturns burn oil because of bad rings.

Is the coolant getting into the oil? If so you probably need a new head gasket too.

If not you need to find where its leaking from and replace that.

Since your car is 9 years old it may not be worth it to fix.
it could be a bad head gasket but to be sure have it checked out by a shop
